Privacy Policy

ChoWilson (“we”, “us”) provides writing, editing, publishing and coaching services, online courses, and a shop for books and digital products. This policy explains what personal information we collect through chowilson.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle your information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

What we collect

• Account details — your name, email address and a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form) when you create an account.
• Orders — your name, email, phone number and delivery address, the items you bought, and the amount paid. We do not see or store your card or bank details; payments are handled by Paystack.
• Courses — which courses you're enrolled in, your progress and quiz scores.
• Messages and bookings — what you send us through the contact and booking forms, including your name, email, phone number and any notes you add.
• Newsletter — your email address, if you subscribe.
• Basic technical data — your IP address and browser details in our server logs and security checks (for example, limiting repeated failed sign-ins). We don't use advertising or analytics trackers.

How we use it

• To create and run your account, take payment, deliver your purchases and give you access to courses.
• To reply to your messages, confirm bookings and send order, enrollment and password-reset emails.
• To send our newsletter, if you subscribed — you can unsubscribe at any time.
• To keep the site secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal and accounting obligations.

Our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (orders, courses, bookings), your consent (newsletter), our legitimate interests (security and running the business), and legal obligations (tax and accounting records).

Who we share it with

We don't sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed for them to do so:

• Paystack — processes your payment.
• Resend — delivers our emails.
• Cloudinary — hosts images, course videos and downloadable files.
• Our hosting and database providers — store the site and its data.

Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we rely on them to protect it to a standard consistent with the NDPA. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep account and course records while your account is open. Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Messages and booking requests are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards. You can ask us to delete your account and the personal information we don't need to keep.

Your rights

Under the NDPA you can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. You can withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribing from the newsletter) at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email admin@chowilson.com. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, private storage for paid downloads and access controls on our admin tools. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong password and keep it to yourself.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: one to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember the items in your shopping cart. We don't use advertising cookies.

Children

Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know by email or on the site.
